Postby MacKellaich » Sun Jun 27, 2010 6:29 pm

Who knows which model of trafficator was used in the 1934-36 10/12 ? I see various models for sale but do not seem to be able to find the info, mine are blanked off and I would like to fit a pair
Thanks

Which year are you looking for? In 1934 the trafficator was a unit with a narrow zinc-alloy spine which widens to form a circular shape over the bulb. These are very fragile and you would be extremely lucky to find one intact. According to the Lucas 1934 10/12 Spares List for Rover it is type SF24/M/JK, Part No. 530,180 (price 15/6!), but it isn't illustrated. Lucas only made these for a year or so and 35/36 types will be different (and a lot easier to find) but I don't have any info for these.

It's a few years since I went to Beaulieu autojumble, but there used to be a seller there specialising in trafficators who very occasionally had reconditioned SF24s, though I never saw one, and they were NOT cheap! It seems to me it would be quite easy to fabricate spines for the 1934 type from brass, but I've never got around to searching out the materials.

I have found that they would have been SF 34's originaly, unless anyone knows differnt, but most got replaced by SF80's, once insatlled they look virtually the same. SF 34's are very difficult to source and you can get repro replacement len's for SF80's hence a better bet. Hope this helps everyone
